Being escorted to the floor,

Twirling around the room.

Being told that I am beautiful,

Being seen as a woman,

Not just as a little girl.

Laughing at the small things,

Grinning all the live long day,

Making corny jokes.

I’d forgotten what it was like

Feeling safe with a hand in yours,

Feeling warmth with an arm around you,

Feeling loved, if just for a while.
